It's World Teachers' Day

It's WORLD TEACHERS' DAY! What would we do without teachers? I spent fifteen years subbing for hard-working teachers, grading students' papers for them, testing kids, tutoring kids, and I didn't put in one-quarter of the time and effort teachers do every day. Their work extends far more than the hours they spend in the school building. They're also what I call "the second line" for helping kids adjust to society in general. How else do kids learn skills in dealing with peers, authority figures, and identifying their strengths and weaknesses? Family first, in my opinion, but parents ought to understand that teachers are NOT the enemy, but colleagues in helping their child's development, boosting self-esteem and independence, plus guiding them in their learning career. Three cheers for TEACHERS!
